Next week see’s Pinehurst No.2 in Carolina host the US Open and we couldn’t be happier about it, because Pinehurst No. 2 is one of the few courses in the world that holds the illustrious Golf Digest Green Star Award - due to the reduction in its water usage.
This environmentally-friendly accolade was achieved through some truly dramatic course management (or as we call it - open heart surgery). In 2010, a team led by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw killed and ripped out all the Bermudagrass rough on the course that had been foolishly planted in the 70’s. Between fairways and tree lines, they established vast bands of native hardpan sand dotted with clumps of wiregrass and scattered pine needles. They reduced the irrigation to mere single rows in fairways to prevent grass from ever returning to the new sandy wastelands and in doing so cut the water usage on the course by 37%.
Now that’s planet friendly.
And at Big Draw we’re being planet friendly too. From using the finest Organic Cotton in our Polo shirts to using recycled materials in our packaging we’re doing as much as we can (at the moment) to make sure we’re as planet-friendly as Pinehurst No.2
We’re so excited about the US Open next week and will be dropping some fresh designs to you subscribers ahead of the rest of the world, so keep your eyes peeled for next weeks newsletter.

Tip for the week: Use a re-usable water bottle when you’re playing, it’ll keep the world clear of those pesky cans.
Now for this weeks play off holes

Practice this: Use wooden tees. Plastic ones take like a kajillion years to decompose, whereas wood will nourish the course within months.
Thanks for reading, let’s change the game.
