Excess wind can really cause us a lot of discomfort. Especially on the golf course. And next week, a Royal Troon if there’s one thing we can guarantee it’s meteorological flatulence.
But it doesn’t all have to be blowy nonsense and maddening mistrals, and we’ll see the worlds best demonstrating this in Scotland.
Some simple ways to beat the wind.
- If you know you’re going to be playing into the wind try and hit the range before you go out. It’ll help you calibrate whether it’s a 1, 2, 3, 4+ club wind. Although, if it’s above 4 I wouldn’t be going out for long.
- More club, less spin. Take an extra club and swing easy. You want your balk spinning less in the air and having whatever spin you’ve put on it accentuated.
- Chip and runs for the win. Keep it under the wind where possible so bin off the pitches and flop shots wherever you can.

Anyway, do you know what else performs really well in the wind ? The Fife. Made from heavyweight organic cotton it’ll keep you cosy on the course and you’ll look wicked too.
